Aine, MS Ireland and Sean O' Sullivan launched 'Kilbrean Boy' in Dublin on World MS Day 2009
Kerry native, Sean O’Sullivan has written "Kilbrean Boy" – A Personal Memoir of Sgt. Sean O’Sullivan, which features many stories about his life growing up in Kilbrean - an area located a few miles from Killarney in Co Kerry - to his 38 year career in An Garda Siochána. Sean was born in 1945, and left Kilbrean in 1964 to begin his illustrious career, which took him around Ireland from the Border to Kilkenny and finally Cork, where he retired in 2005. He spent 30 years as a Sergeant.
One part of the book that will strike a chord with many people will be the death of Sean’s brother, David who died back in the Seventies at the age of 34. David had been diagnosed with MS at 27, and it was a time when there wasn’t many treatments for MS. Sean chose to donate some of the profits from the book to MS Ireland because the event deeply affected him.
“He was my only brother, and you could have knocked me over with a feather when he died as he died before my mother and father,” says Sean, who is still visibly moved by David’s death.
The other charity of Sean’s choice is the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland, as Sean was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease himself.
Sean says he has written the book for his children and grandchildren, and hopes to give them an insight into his colourful life. The book will be available in Cork and Kerry, or you can order it by calling Sean on 087-2029358 or emailing shauno12@yahoo.ie.
