Break down barriers...

European Commission seeks public input on measures to break down barriers to disabled people.

The European Commission is exploring the merits of producing a "European Accessibility Act", which would be a business-friendly proposal to substantially improve the proper functioning of the internal market for accessible goods and services.

The initiative aims to ensure that people with disabilities have access on an equal basis with others to the physical environment, to transport, to information and communication services. It will also benefit people with limited mobility such as the elderly.

The Commission has released details of a Consultation process which is aimed at gathering views from

- Businesses and organisations from both public and private sector

- People with disabilities
