If you have any of the skills and experience we need and are interested in MS, disability rights, community based support and good governance in the not-for-profit sector you could be the person we are looking for. If, in addition, you are committed to inclusion and person centred services we will welcome you wholeheartedly.
A panel of interested and skilled people is being established, from which candidates will be selected for election.
The commitment is intense, but not hugely time consuming, at present six board meetings a year are held on Saturdays, an away weekend and an annual AGM, with the possibility of being asked to join a sub-committee. There is no payment, but out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
MS Ireland is the only national organisation working solely on behalf of people living with MS (7000+) and the many thousands of people who share their lives.
MS Ireland exists to facilitate people with MS to control their lives and environment, to live with dignity and participate in the community.
The Society provides a range of services to meet the needs of the people with MS and also represents unmet needs to appropriate policy makers and providers.
MS is one of the most prevalent diseases of the central nervous system and directly affects an estimated 7000 people in Ireland. It is the most common disabling neurological disorder amongst young people but it can occur at any age. There is no cure for MS to date, but there are now drugs which can modify its course for some people and many of the symptoms can be successfully treated or managed.
