Legacy – A Lasting Gesture
A legacy to MS Ireland will help secure the future of our vital work – enabling us to continue our research into the cause and relief of MS symptoms. It also means that your generosity will be remembered and appreciated for years to come by people affected by Multiple Sclerosis. A legacy to MS Ireland is tax efficient as there is currently no payment of inheritance tax when leaving a legacy to charity.
The idea of making a will is something, which may make us feel uncomfortable. Realistically however, it is something that all of us should do at an early age to ease the burden of the loved ones we leave behind.
A gift left in a will is simply a means of giving something back. It provides you with the opportunity to ensure that your possessions and finances are divided you according to your wishes. It is about remembering the people and the causes that you care about. It gives you the opportunity to support the work of a cause close to your heart in a way, which you may not have been able to do during your lifetimes. After you have taken care of your family, friends and loved ones, the following are types of gifts you could leave to MS Ireland in your will:
- Cash Donation: Gift a specific sum of money when you are making your will
- A share or perecentage of your estate: Leave a share of the rest of your assets, after you have looked after loved ones
- An Item: A gift of a specific item of value such as shares, property, land, an antique ..
- Make an addition to your will: If you have already have a will and you decide to give a gift to MS Ireland, you will need to prepare a new will, or ask your solicitor to add a codicil (addition) in a similar way to the original will. A codicil needs to be witnessed and signed in the same way as the original will, and should be kept in the same place as the original will.
- A reversionary gift: Your legacy gift is given to MS Ireland, only after the death of your spouse/partner ensuring their needs are met first.
