MS Ireland saddened at Marie Fleming's passing

MS Ireland is saddened to hear the news this morning that Marie Fleming has passed away, having lived with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for over 25 years. We would like to send our deepest condolences to her partner Tom Curran and her family.

Ms Fleming’s landmark right-to-die case was initially rejected by the High Court in January this year, where she had contested the validity of the Criminal Law Suicide Act 1993. Subsequently the case was rejected by the Supreme Court where the Court’s seven judges unanimously agreed that there was no explicit right to commit suicide or to determine the time of ones death in the Constitution nor was there the right for a limited class of people such as Ms Fleming.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ms Fleming’s family at this time.
