MS Ireland is asking thousands of readers young and old to take part in the 36th MS Readathon in November to help raise awareness and vital funds to support the over 10,000 people living with MS.

What Budget 2024 means for people affected by MS, so far

Multiple Sclerosis… the name in itself can be frightening at any stage in life, even for those carrying the burden of it. What we often don't do, is talk about it as honestly as we must.      

Sometimes, we fear the reaction of those living with us, or we want to hide the unpredictability of symptoms popping up at the wrong time.

The Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) has released a one-page information sheet highlighting the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and multiple sclerosis (MS). EBV, a prevalent virus affecting up to 95% of the global population, has long been a subject of interest in MS research.

In a significant development, the HSE has announced a Managed Access Program for Sativex, an anti-spasticity medication which may be of benefit to those who experience MS-related spasticity but for whom other anti-spasticity medications have not been successful. 

We held our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 16th September 2023 via Zoom with members of MS Ireland logging in throughout the country.

There are so many things that you provide, for which I am thankful for. When you live with a chronic illness, life can become overwhelming and tiring. You provide me and other people living with MS with so many services that can help make our lives that much easier. In February you gave me the opportunity to attend the younger persons respite stay in the MS Care Centre in Bushy Park. I was very apprehensive about attending as my mobility is now very good and my MS is more of an invisible disability as of now. Although I was in two minds about going, I am so happy I did as it was the best week of my life. 

Monday, 25th September 2023, MS Ireland launched the MS Readathon at the Irish Print Museum today with RTE’s Rick O’Shea, children’s authors Alan Nolan and Nicola Pierce, MS Readathon Ambassador Shirley Keane O’Brien and 2nd and 3rd class children from John Scottus primary school.
