Mark Mitchell Person of the Year 2011

Mark Mitchell has championed inclusion in his local Branch since being diagnosed in 2008. Chairman of East Wicklow Branch (formerly Bray Branch), Mark works tirelessly for its benefit. The Branch has flourished under his stewardship and he has increased public awareness of MS and disability issues. Mark has been described as ‘one of those outstanding people you might be lucky enough to meet once in a lifetime’. He said:“I was totally overwhelmed to receive the award. When I look at the list of previous winners, I feel humbled. I do what I can and just wish I had the health to do more for this wonderful organisation.”

MS Carer of the Year 2011

Vanessa Carer of the Year 2011

Established as a perpetual trophy by our Cork Branch, the Jimmy Brown trophy is presented in memory of Jimmy Brown who was a full time carer for his wife Gretta and daughter Ann, both people with MS. Vanessa O’Donovan, 2011 recipient, is a selfless individual whose only concern in life is Bernard’s welfare. Her husband has a very significant level of disability, and needs assistance with all aspects of daily life. Her day starts at around 6am and goes on until well after midnight. A loving carer, Vanessa perceives anything she does for Bernard as something she wants to do rather than has to do.
