Peer Support

At MS Ireland, we recognise how meaningful it can be to connect with others who understand what it’s like to live with MS. Peer support is a key part of how we support our community.

How you can connect

We provide opportunities for people to connect in a variety of ways, including:

  • In-person gatherings such as coffee mornings, information sessions and classes (e.g. yoga, art, mindfulness)
  • Virtual support groups facilitated by MS Ireland staff.
  • Programmes focused on symptom management and wellbeing
  • Local branch meetings

Why peer support matters

Many of our programmes focus on supporting physical health and managing symptoms, while also creating opportunities for people to learn from one another. Hearing about others’ experiences can offer new perspectives, build confidence and remind people they are not alone.

Other programmes take a more informal, community-based approach, where peer support grows naturally through conversation, shared activities and mutual understanding.

Through all of these opportunities, we aim to create welcoming, supportive spaces where people can connect, learn and feel a sense of understanding and belonging.

One-to-One Peer Support Pilot Project

We are looking for people to become Peer Supporters and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others living with MS.

This is an opportunity to support others, build connections, and help reduce feelings of isolation within the MS community, while being part of a supportive and connected community.

About the role

Peer Supporters play an important role in supporting people living with MS. Drawing on their own lived experience, they offer empathetic, non-judgmental and confidential support. Through listening and sharing, they, help build connection, reduce isolation and support the wellbeing of others.
