Team MS Ireland Training Tips

As a Team MS Ireland member we want to help you as much as we can and one of the best ways we can support you is by making sure you are on top of your training.

Ireland Grand Slam winner, Ailis Egan, shares some of her top training tips with you:

“Do a little bit of exercise regularly in the lead up to the day and increase the intensity little by little – walk uphill, power walk or jog for a short distance. Before and after the marathon, stretch out your muscles. Above all though,  I’d say have fun!”

  • Plan ahead: Plan your training routine, your running routes and meals. This will keep you on track to reach your goals.
  • Stay healthy: Eat a balanced diet and keep hydrated. Nutrition is key to getting the most out of your training and to being in the best possible shape for the race itself.
  • Dress right: You don’t want to be too hot or too cold - get the balance right! High quality runners will help prevent injury and blisters so they're worth the investment.
  • Train smart: Rest is key! Training every day will start to take its toll on you - make sure you factor in some rest days so your body has a chance to repair itself. It’s also important to be able to switch off and get some good quality sleep!
  • Grab a training buddy: Running with a friend will keep you motivated, push you harder and will make it much more fun. Even better, get a group of friends together or join a running club.
