FATIGUE IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON INVISIBLE SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED BY PEOPLE WITH MS

WE ARE RECRUITING FOR ONLINE AND IN-PERSON FATIGUE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMES

The programme that MS Ireland will run is based on a programme developed by researchers at Bournemouth University in the UK. It’s called FACETS (Fatigue: Applying Cognitive behavioural and Energy effectiveness Techniques to life Style). There is lots of evidence that this programme is effective in helping people with MS manage their fatigue. This programme is designed for people that walk with or without a walking aid. Fatigue management programmes for other categories of people with MS will be scheduled at a later date.

The programme consists of 6 sessions, run weekly, for 2 hours. Depending on numbers and the area you live in, the sessions are delivered either online or in-person. It is important to attend all sessions. Each session is facilitated by two MS Ireland Community Workers and in-between each session participants are given short ‘homework’ tasks to complete. The breakdown of sessions are as follows:

Session 1: Explores MS related fatigue and the primary and secondary causes of fatigue

Session 2: Explores energy levels, rest, relaxation and sleep

Session 3: Explores how to balance rest and activity and introduces tools to support self-management

Session 4: Explores stress and fatigue, how to cope with stress and dealing with unhelpful thoughts

Session 5: Explores ways of challenging unhelpful thoughts patterns

Session 6: Explores ways of planning ahead and recaps on the content of all of the sessions

Programmes will be scheduled during the year. If you are interested, please register here
