Christmas Appeal 2019

Your gift will give someone like Olivia the support they need this Christmas

When Olivia was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the age of 29, over ten years ago, she knew nothing about the condition. She was in total shock. She never thought something like this could happen to her. Olivia had just found her dream home and was settling in to enjoy a long and happy life raising her six month old little boy Ryan with her husband Terry. Having just returned to work she began to struggle with sore and tired eyes that eventually led to blurry and painful vision loss. This resulted in her first of many visits to the doctor. Fast forward through hospital appointments, an MRI and an anxious wait, she was now sitting in her neurologist’s office terrifi ed about what her future would hold.

“I remember thinking; I will deal with this one day but not right now. I really didn’t want to know. The only person I knew at the time with MS was someone in a wheelchair”.

Olivia is just one of over 9,000 people living with MS in Ireland today. And over the course of her life she will depend on the vital services and support that MS Ireland provides every day. But as demand for our most vital services grow; the pressure on our limited resources is becoming overwhelming. With your support we  can meet this demand.

Your gift can provide someone like Olivia, with the support they need to manage their MS, so they can look forward to spending time with family and friends, especially at Christmas.

“Family is now more important to me than ever. And at Christmas, as I have gotten older and struggle more with my fatigue, I’m happy to pack up the car with the kids and head to my mum’s so we can all celebrate together!”

Olivia has received regular physiotherapy through MS Ireland, which has helped her mobility and given her a new lease of life. And that support system is available for Olivia's children Ryan, Luke and Katie should they need it. MS Ireland provide help for families affected by MS through organising activities like family outings to places like Tayto Park. This support provided by MS Ireland is priceless. With your help MS Ireland will make sure that Olivia and her family will have all the practical, medical and emotional support they need – for as long as they need it. This remarkable commitment of care is only possible with the continued generosity of kind people like you.

Please, this Christmas, will you make a special gift to MS Ireland, to make sure our most vital services are there for those who need them, where and when they need them. May I wish you and your family the most wonderful and joyful Christmas.
