Deal to improve access to new medications

An agreement was reached earlier this week between the Department of Health and Children and the Irish Pharmaeutical Healthcare Association which will allow access to new medications.

A number of new drugs were approved by the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics but their release was stalled due to lack of funds

Included in this list are medications for the treatment of stroke and multiple sclerosis.

The agreement will put in place savings which will allow the HSE to cover the cost of the new medicines

NAI welcomes this development as a positive step to allowing access to new treatments for people with neurological conditions
