The May 50K is a global fitness and fundraising challenge to raise money for MS research worldwide and also support MS Ireland projects and services. MS Ireland is calling on participants of all ages and abilities to take up the month-long challenge in the run up to World MS Day on 30th May. The premise is simple, walk, roll or run 50 kilometres during the month of May in return for sponsorship.

Commenting on the challenge on Tipp FM, Sally Spearman, Senior Fundraiser with MS Ireland said: “At MS Ireland we are working to support every person with MS in Ireland. By taking part in this challenge, you will make a real impact on the lives of people with MS from all over Ireland. The vital funds you raise will be put to work where they are needed most to enhance our Multiple Sclerosis services. Every project our fundraisers support to help MS Ireland is only possible through the generosity of our supporters”.

Lyndsey O’Driscoll is taking part in the challenge in May “I am walking the MS May 50k in memory of my dad, Thomas Darby, he passed away in March 2005 after living with MS for almost 16 years. He was a wonderful character and loved life so much. This year on his anniversary and I thought I would personally challenge myself to walk 150km, in his name, to raise awareness of all the wonderful work the MS Society of Ireland do, while also helping to raise some funds for much needed research”.

People can ake part on their own, create a family team or get their workplace involved. It’s a virtual event and can be done anywhere. Clock those kilometres on the way into work, around your garden, in the supermarket as it all counts.

Every step you take, every kilometre you clock, helps people get access to the treatment they need today and takes us closer to finding a cure for MS. There are over 9,000 people in Ireland living with multiple sclerosis.

30% of all funds raised go towards funding life-changing MS Research and 70% goes to local services and supports in Ireland.

When people register and receive their first donation they will receive a May 50k T-shirt.I t’s important that we stay fit and healthy by looking after our physical and mental well-being. The May 50K is a great way to combine the two.

All fundraising is done through the website www.themay50k.ie where people can log their  KM’s, hook up to their fitness devices and blog their way through the month.
