Cognitive Occupation-Based programme for people with Multiple Sclerosis

The University of Galway is now recruiting people living with MS in Galway and Dublin to take part in the COB-MS programme.

Approximately 50-65% of people living with MS in Ireland have challenges with cognition. Cognitive difficulties refer to disruption in mental processes such as attention, learning, memory, reasoning, decision-making, and more aspects of our thinking.

These difficulties can impact people’s daily lives as well as their quality of life. They are very disruptive, whether causing issues in the workplace, home life, childcare or social and self-care activities. There is a lack of research on programs designed to lessen such difficulties and their life-impacting effects.

COB-MS was developed with a holistic focus on rehabilitation in MS, through an individualised cognitive intervention, measured by and taught through Occupational Therapy participation. This is a non-pharmacological treatment for cognition of people with MS that we hope will ensure people maintain and continue doing what is important to them.

This month we start the project in Co. Galway and Co. Dublin (the bigger trial will be countrywide next year). We are now recruiting people with MS and urge you to join this research. Please contact us by email on cobms@universityofgalway.ie, call us on 085 114 6207 or leave a message on WhatsApp with your details and a member of the team will get back to you.
