Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating non- judgemental awareness in day to day life. It can be considered a psychological therapy which uses meditative tools that can be used to improve one’s outlook, provide coping strategies to deal with life’s stresses and changes. It involves learning to focus attention on emotions, sensations and thoughts in an accepting and non-judgemental way. By focussing fully on the present moment rather than on the past or the future, mindfulness helps to break the cycle of negative thoughts and emotions.
There are a number of social based events run on a regional basis by MS Ireland. These events give participants the opportunity to meet in a more informal setting and have the opportunity to chat with each other about MS or just life in general. Often a great way for people with MS to meet others for the first time who may be in a similar situation as themselves. Some events are on hold for now because of Covid restrictions but others are running online.
Events may vary from region to region so check in with your own regional office to see what might be going on.

This is because most of the therapies used to treat MS work by suppressing the immune system, making PwMS more susceptible to complications if they contract COVID-19. Despite this, the MS Community has risen magnificently to overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19.
