Auction in Aid of the National Care Centre

Artist Ann Kennedy has donated two of her paintings and a photo on canvas to raise funds for the National Care Centre.

"I have chosen to offer three of my creative pieces to get funds for MS Ireland National Care Centre. They incurred incredible costs for structural repair recently. Covid too, did not help.

My twin Margaret and I have enjoyed in recent years their care, consideration, their support and help and ‘respite,’ in the true sense of the word. This is a place like none other.

It offers ‘respite’ to all who have a neurological condition or neuromuscular progressive condition, like my twin sister and I. We love it there".

The three pieces Ann Kennedy donated are on auction to raise much needed funds for the National Care Centre.

Willow tree

The Willow Tree – acrylic on canvas

"The National Care Centre in Bushy Park has an amazing mature very large willow tree. During the summer I could be found lying under its arching branches, just absorbing its peace and calm, silently watching a nesting blue tit come and go high on its trunk where a nesting box was put.

I chose to do a painting interpretation of my experience and this is the result. It was a special ‘time out.’ Now YOU too can enjoy.

I would love to raise €250 with the willow tree".

2 heads

Two heads are better than one - acrylic on canvas

"When I got sick, no one could pin point what was wrong with me. I visited centres of excellence in the UK and in London. On the first trip, I stayed near Camden Lock and happened upon a trendy market by the canal. I went into a cave of magic with psychedelic lights and oddities – two stuffed heads high above. It ‘spoke’ to me of the incongruity of their situation and mine. How often have you felt as if you had been ‘shelved,’ ‘stuffed’ or ‘mindless’ even ‘disconnected.’ It was a 3d embroidery mixed media creative piece.

The resonance so strong, I was compelled to paint it in the past two years. The interpretation is entirely up to you. I have my own. You too can own to chose your personal reason for laughing.

I would like to raise €250 with this painting".

The Sun going down offering hope - photograph on canvas

"I was not in good shape as I left the garden at close of day to come in and settle down. I saw birds fly over and put my camera to meet them. The result ‘spoke’ to me. I was pleasantly surprised at the unexpected shot of a solitary crow with a halo and sunbeams behind.

I hope you get the chance to feel the same in what was a freak chance on an impulse, taken.

I would like to raise 175 with the photo on canvas".

Ann Kennedy - Artist Bio

"I attended Art College in the 70’s. After which I took up animation and worked on the much acclaimed film in London at the time, “Watership Down.” Returning to Ireland I did a stint at Ardmore Studios. My working life was graphics and children’s books. I have published and won Irish Book Design Awards. I turned to Fine Art painting when offered a slot at a studio and there was no turning back. I exhibited to good acclaim selling well, having paintings bought by the American Ambassador of the day. A director at a facility in Finland also bought and my work is in international collections. When I became sick with a ultra rare progressive neurological disease I gave all up for ten years. I Returned tentatively in later years, of which these form only a small part of output. I have received a few Arts Councils Awards which enabled me to continue in the creative arts and also recently a bursary from the Irish Writer’s Centre to continue my level of writing, which is going well at present".
