Ambassador’s Visit to Clondulane National School

During November, Ciaran, William and Angela, three members of the Fermoy Branch of MS, visited Clondulane National School to tell them about the MS READaTHON.  The three ambassadors spoke to the students of the school, from 1st – 6th class, to explain to them what multiple sclerosis is, how it affects their health and what their lives are like.

One of the issues the ambassadors spent some time chatting to the students about  was the importance of carers in their lives. They explained how carers helped people living with MS to clean their houses, cook dinner, and to get in and out of their cars.

Ciaran, William and Angela also explained how MS is not the same for any two people with the condition, and that symptoms for some people may be in their limbs while for other people, fatigue may be what affects them.  They also explained that the causes of MS are unknown, and that doctors and scientists are still trying to find a cure for MS.

The ambassadors also explained how the students can help people living with MS by taking part in the MS READaTHON. The MS READaTHON has been running for 25 years and has been encouraging young people to read, while raising much needed funds for services to those living with Multiple Sclerosis in Ireland.

Clondulane National School also developed a different way to raise money for MS Ireland, if reading is not for them. They asked students to raise money by walking the Galtee Mountains on the 3rd Sunday of June.

Following Ciaran, William and Angela’s visit to Clondulane National School the students decided to take part in the MS READaTHON 2012 and raised a massive €1,030!

Everyone at MS READaTHON HQ would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all the students who took part in this year’s MS READaTHON and to all the teachers and parents who supported them and helped with their efforts!
