Celtic Steamers Road Run

Travelling through Kilkennny, Carlow, Laois

This year the Celtic Steamers have invited MS Ireland to be the beneficiary of their efforts where they plan to have twenty engines travelling the route. Each engine driver is asked to fill a sponsorship card to register for the event and a core team of volunteers will travel with them for the weekend through towns and villages along the way encouraging donations through bucket collections.

The Celtic Steamers are a group of steam engine enthusiasts who are planning a road run that will involve steam engines from Kilkenny and Carlow making their way from Kilkenny City through Carlow town and County and eventually arriving in Stradbally, Co. Laois to join hundreds of engines from around Ireland for the 50th commemoration of the Stradbally Steam Engine on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

You will get an opportunity to see this fantastic spectacle outside Kilkenny Castle on the evening of Thursday 31st July and Friday morning, 1st August. The engines will then travel on to Carlow stopping off at the Royal Oak in Bagenalstown around lunch time and arriving in Carlow town at 3pm where they will remain until Saturday morning, 2nd August. They will arrive in Stradbally on Saturday 2nd August around 3pm.
