UL Researcher Awarded €270,000

Research to investigate the benefits of exercise for people with Multiple Sclerosis

University of Limerick physiotherapist, Dr Susan Coote was awarded €270,000 by Ireland’s Health Research Board (HRB) to investigate the benefits of physical activity for people with Multiple Sclerosis.

Dr Coote explains the significance of this research added; 'We know that physical activity can have major benefits for people with MS, the key is trying to embed this activity as a core part of their daily life. This project is unique in that it combines a programme of physical activity coupled with behaviour change interventions to enable people with MS to remain physically active into the future'.

For many years Dr Susan Coote has been involved with MS Ireland and also sits on the Board. Susan and her research team continue to do exciting collaborative projects exploring the benefits of exercise for people with MS. The outcomes of which continue to influence physiotherapy practice. The MS community congratulate Susan and look forward to the results of this exciting new project.
