MS and me look back part 2

For the second part in our look back series , this week we are looking back on the MS and Me blog posts from July to December 2021.

Rosie told us about her love of painting and how taking part in RTE’s Big Life Fix helped her continue with her beautiful artwork.  Fergal hit his 25 year MS anniversary , and wrote about how his MS today compares to when he was first diagnosed.

MRIs are part and parcel of life with MS, and Joan wrote about her experiences during and after her time in the scanner. Rosie, Ciara and Niamh wrote about their canine companions and the joy of those connections. It’s fair to say there are a lot of MS and Me pets! Mary shared about how MS can impact us emotionally, a side of the illness that isn’t often talked about.

Like a lot of us, Lauren was hoping we’d be back on our Ryanair flights to sunnier climes by September. It wasn’t to be, but her 10 Tips for managing MS while on holiday is a handy checklist for any upcoming trips. Ciara wrote about the often-spoken words from well meaning friends – “but you look great”

Maggie and her children were getting ready for ‘Back to School’, and she shared their experiences of having a parent with MS.

Willeke shared her suggestions for preparing for a Neurology Appointment, to get the most out of your time with your neurology team. Sarah wrote about benefits she gets from exercise and her mantra of “energy creates energy” was a great suggestion. For when we aren’t feeling as energetic, Christine shared some books where the main character has MS. Our dear pal Declan wrote a wonderful guest blog about the Wheelathon he completed around Cork City centre in his wheelchair.

Robert delved into the impact MS has on mental health, which sometimes gets forgotten about while dealing with the physical symptoms. Nadia wrote about the therapy and joy she gets from having her dog Alfie at her side during the good and tough times with MS. The build-up to another Covid Christmas was the subject of Niamh’s blog. Dearbhla rounded off the month with a powerful piece highligting the importance of Disability Activism.

As we reach the end of 2021, we donned our Festive Jumpers for Christmas Jumper Day. Christina wrote about the important reason behind the fun excuse to wear our finery. Rosie is going to round of the year with her blog about Christmas, next week.
